Pedestrian Accidents in Ohio
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, pedestrians are 1.5 times more likely to be killed in an accident. In the event of a collision, pedestrians have little protection, making them more vulnerable to fatalities. In 2017, a pedestrian died in a traffic accident every 88 minutes on average in the United States, for a total of 5,977 pedestrian deaths.
No matter where you live, you will occasionally have to share the road with pedestrians. Drivers in Ohio have a duty to all road users, including pedestrians. Many people prefer to walk to restaurants, jog, or simply enjoy a beautiful day because pedestrians have legal rights in the state. That means that if you are injured in a car accident, you may be entitled to compensation with the assistance of a knowledgeable Elyria car accident lawyer.
