Cleveland, OH (June 2, 2022) – A young boy was left with critical injuries after being involved in a hit-and-skip crash in the Cleveland area on Wednesday evening, June 1. The accident was reported at around 11 p.m. near the intersection of Kinsman Road and E. 93rd Street.
The 11-year-old boy was reportedly traveling near the crossroads when he was hit by an oncoming motor vehicle. A piece of the bumper fell off following the impact. The at-fault driver fled the scene without providing aid to the injured party. The pedestrian was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.
Cameras in the area were functioning and authorities believe they have a strong working description of the vehicle. An ongoing investigation into the crash is underway.
Our thoughts are with the injured victim and his family at this time. We hope for a full recovery.
Hit-&-Skip Crashes in Ohio
In the United States, the frequency of hit-and-run incidents has reached new highs, and the number continues to grow year after year. There were almost 737,100 hit-and-run incidents registered throughout the nation in 2015, meaning one every 43 seconds on average. Since 2009, the yearly rate of hit-and-run fatalities has risen by 7.2 percent, hitting a record high in 2016.
Pedestrians traveling on Ohio roadways run a greater risk of serious injury or death as a consequence of a traffic accident without the protective frame of a vehicle surrounding them. Furthermore, pedestrians have less flexibility in avoiding crashes and reacting to emergencies. Accidents involving pedestrians may happen in the blink of an eye, and they’re more likely to occur after dark in metropolitan areas when people’s eyesight is hindered.
