New Russia Twp, OH (October 6, 2021) – A crash in New Russia Township left two people dead on Tuesday, October 4.
The fatal crash occurred near the crossing of Oberlin Road and Russia Road that afternoon. The Ohio State Highway Patrol revealed that 28-year-old Mason Smith of Elyria was headed northbound in a 2005 Dodge 1500. He reportedly ran a stop sign and hit a blue 2014 Nissan Versa driven by 66-year-old Roy Van Keuren.
The driver of the Nissan reportedly had the right of way. A passenger of the Nissan, 65-year-old Susan Van Keuren of Grafton, was pronounced dead at the scene. Mason later succumbed to his injuries at a local medical facility.
