Garfield Heights, OH (June 13, 2022) – An explosion at a home in Garfield Heights left three people dead on Saturday night, June 11. The deadly event occurred at a residence located at the 4900 block of E. 81st Street at around 6:30 p.m.
Firefighters were rushed to the scene to rescue anyone inside the structure. The home was completely destroyed when emergency crews arrived. Three adults were reportedly in the residence, and it is believed that a smell of gas was present.
The deceased parties were later identified as 37-year-old Cassandra Bateman, 64-year-old Donald Malinowski, and 57-year-old Gerald Bateman, all from Garfield Heights. The cause of the explosion has not been confirmed at this time.
An ongoing investigation into the cause of the deadly incident is underway.
