Cleveland, OH (April 2, 2025) – A violent collision early Monday morning left two women hospitalized after a head-on crash in Cleveland’s Union Miles neighborhood.
The incident occurred at approximately 3:30 a.m. on March 31 at the intersection of East 142nd Street and Miles Avenue. Emergency units, including firefighters and medics, rushed to the scene where two cars had collided head-on, resulting in significant damage and entrapment.
According to Cleveland EMS, both victims—women in their 20s—sustained minor injuries. Crews extricated them from the wreckage and transported them to University Hospitals for further medical treatment. The condition of the vehicles indicated a high-impact crash, and both directions of Miles Avenue, from East 139th to East 142nd Street, were temporarily shut down to allow emergency crews to clear the scene safely.
AIU, Cleveland’s Accident Investigation Unit, also responded and is leading the investigation to determine what may have caused the wreck. At this time, officials have not released details about the factors that led to the crash.
We hope those injured in this accident recover quickly.
Car Accidents in Ohio
Ohio continues to report thousands of motor vehicle accidents each year. Many of these result in injuries that can alter the course of a person’s life. According to data from the Ohio Department of Public Safety, distracted driving, speeding, and failing to yield remain among the top causes of collisions across the state. Many incidents happen during nighttime hours or early mornings, when visibility is reduced and driver fatigue may play a role.
While every accident has its own story, some injuries are more common than others. Below is a closer look at a few examples:
- Whiplash and Soft Tissue Injuries: One of the most common results of a crash, especially head-on collisions, is whiplash. This injury impacts the neck and shoulders, often taking days or weeks to fully manifest. Even when symptoms seem minor at first, lingering effects can become chronic without proper treatment.
- Broken Bones: High-speed crashes can easily lead to fractures. Victims might suffer broken arms, legs, or ribs, depending on the impact. Recovery can be lengthy and may involve surgery, physical therapy, and time away from work or school.
- Facial Injuries: Airbag deployment and broken glass often cause facial cuts or fractures. These can be both painful and emotionally distressing. In some cases, reconstructive surgery may be needed.
- Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI): Even if there’s no direct impact to the head, the brain can still suffer injury from the sudden jolt of a collision. Concussions and other TBIs can lead to cognitive, physical, and emotional challenges that require long-term support.
- Psychological Trauma: Physical wounds aren’t the only consequence. Many survivors develop anxiety, depression, or post-traumatic stress. It’s vital to acknowledge and address the emotional impact of serious collisions.
